The Terry Callier Music Documentary Newsletter (#1)

Greetings all! We are contacting you with updates on the Terry Callier Music Documentary project. We are so happy to have you among our community of collaborators, and we have some exciting updates to share!

After about 5 months of pre-production, Director Tim Walton spent just over a week in Chicago this month meeting and shooting interviews with key folks including Sunny Callier (Terry’s beloved daughter), Terry’s songwriting partner and lifelong friend Larry Wade, radio personality and author Al Carter-Bey, writer and professor Aaron Cohen, former University of Chicago colleague and professor Joseph Fedorko, brother Michael Callier, and Chicago Reader illustrator and music historian Steve Krakow. In addition to visiting the Honorary Terrence Callier Way in Chicago (pictured below), Tim conducted interviews at historic and significant landmarks including the Old Town School of Folk Music, the famed Green Mill Jazz Club, and Dusty Groove Records.

Tim is now back in Los Angeles, working on a rough cut we can use to start our fundraising campaign as we begin to get the word out about this long overdue celebration of Terry.

We are also planning a second round of interviews to take place in the UK this fall. We are thrilled to have engaged the interest of a number of Terry’s collaborators and champions across the pond, including Paul Weller, Beth Orton, and Acid Jazz records co-founders Gilles Peterson and Eddie Piller. We are also slated to interview music producer Brian Bacchus, former Verve executive Chuck Mitchell, and jazz guitarist Jeff Parker as well as some additional prospects including Sharon Blynn, Carlos Niño and Richard Rudolph (if we can track him down)!

We will share updates here as we make progress and we hope you will stay engaged with us. If you have any leads for interview prospects or wish to learn more about our fundraising efforts, please be in touch. We are so very honored to play a role in ensuring the world knows about the immense talent and international treasure that is Terry Callier.

Peace and Blessings,

Tim Walton - Director
